about

The cover of "What was Made for Weathering" features a house Marks once lived in that was made of barge-wood and had floated down the Mississippi river. Since they couldn't send the barges back upriver for repeat use, they were often disassembled and restructured into shotgun houses. What was a boat can become a house. What was a house can laid low, or turned into something else entirely: songs of loss, hope, love, change and transformation.

Says the Austin American Statesman:

"A singer-songwriter and sideman with roots in New Orleans, Marks brings some of that city’s jazz elements to this graceful 11-song collection of acoustic-based material. "

about

Wilson Marks Austin, Texas

Wilson Marks studied jazz in New Orleans and tacos in Austin TX. Pop-sensible melodies over technical, jazz-inspired fretwork. His voice is one part gravel (a la Tom Waits), one part whimsical (more like Harry Nilsson). Songs of love and longing, but more magical than your average fare, like the love and longing from one alien to another, from a merman to his mermaid. ... more
